Protocolniveau is a term used in information and communication technology to refer to the abstraction level at which a communication protocol operates within a protocol stack. It designates the boundary between adjacent layers and defines the scope of responsibilities, data units, and signaling conventions associated with that boundary.

By focusing on protocolniveau, engineers can reason about interfaces, service primitives, and the separation of concerns that enable interoperability and modularity.
