Proszéniumi is a term used in classical literature, particularly in ancient Greek and Roman theater. It refers to the part of the stage in front of the skene, the building at the back of the stage. This area served as the primary performance space for actors. The proszénium was where most of the dramatic action, dialogue, and interaction between characters took place. It was a raised platform, typically extending out into the orchestra, which was the circular dancing area for the chorus.

The term proszénium derives from the Greek words "pro" meaning "in front of" and "skēnē" meaning "scene" or "tent." Therefore, it literally means "in front of the scene building."
