Prosentvis

Prosentvis is a Norwegian term used to express a quantity as a percentage or relative share. It is commonly used in statistics, economics, and public discourse to describe proportions, changes, and comparisons. The term emphasizes the relation to a whole or to a baseline, rather than an absolute count.

A key distinction is between prosentvis endring and prosentpoeng. Prosentvis endring refers to the relative change between two values: (ny - gammel) / gammel × 100. Prosentpoeng, by contrast, is an absolute difference in percentage points, such as an increase from 20% to 25% equals +5 prosentpoeng.

Beregning: Prosentandel equals del/hel × 100, where del is the part and hel is the whole. To express a change prosentvis, use the formula above. When comparing groups, prosentvis values allow quick assessment of scale and direction.

Examples: If 60 of 240 people are students, the share is 25 percent (60/240 × 100). If a population grows from 1,000 to 1,100, the relative (prosentvis) increase is 10 percent.

Usage: In tables, charts, and reports, prosentvis is used to present data in an accessible way, enabling comparisons across categories of different sizes.
