Propulsia

Propulsia is a term used in speculative discussions of propulsion to denote a family of approaches intended to move vehicles by means other than ejecting reaction mass. The word is not tied to a single theory and its usage varies by author. In some narratives, propulsia refers to propulsion achieved by manipulating momentum through interactions with fields, spacetime, or quantum vacuum phenomena, potentially reducing or eliminating the need to carry propellant.

In scientific literature the concept is generally treated as speculative. Proposals often rely on theoretical constructs such as controlled electromagnetic or gravitational interactions, or on materials or states of matter that can produce net thrust through novel interactions. However, to date no prototype or experiment has demonstrated propulsia in a practical sense, and many proposed mechanisms face fundamental objections based on conservation laws, energy requirements, or engineering challenges.

Current status: Propulsia remains primarily a topic of theoretical exploration and science fiction. It is sometimes cited alongside other exotic propulsion concepts such as warp drives, inertia manipulation, or vacuum energy exploitation, though with different levels of plausibility.
