They generate electrical signals, or action potentials, that are transmitted along sensory neurons. These neurons carry the information from the periphery to the central nervous system, specifically to the spinal cord and then to the brain. The brain, upon receiving these transduced signals, integrates them with other sensory information, such as vision and vestibular input, to create a conscious awareness of the body's state.
