Projektbetrachtungsrahmen

Projektbetrachtung is a term used in German-speaking project management to denote the early-stage evaluation of a proposed project. It involves examining whether the initiative aligns with strategic goals, constraints, and stakeholder needs, and whether it is worth pursuing given available resources.

It typically covers several dimensions: strategic alignment, technical feasibility, economic viability, and risk assessment. It may also consider legal, regulatory, social and environmental implications, and resource requirements such as time, personnel, and capital.

The process usually generates a decision-oriented document—often a business case or a feasibility study—that presents options, estimates costs and benefits, identifies risks, and recommends a course of action (proceed, modify, or stop). It may include scenarios, sensitivity analysis, and a comparison of alternatives.

In practice, Projektbetrachtung is conducted by project sponsors, a steering committee, or a dedicated feasibility team, early in the project lifecycle, prior to formal authorization. It is common in corporate and public-sector contexts and is closely linked to portfolio management and stage-gate processes.

Limitations include uncertainty in estimates, reliance on available data, and potential bias. To mitigate, it is often complemented by more detailed feasibility studies, risk analyses, and the eventual creation of a formal business case and project charter.
