Prohlásím

Prohlásím is a Czech verb form meaning “I will declare” or “I shall declare.” It is the first-person singular future tense of the verb prohlásit, which means to declare, proclaim, or announce publicly. The form is used when the speaker commits to making a declaration in the future.

Etymology and form: Prohlásit is a perfective verb built from the prefix pro- attached to hlásit (to announce). The root hlás- is related to words for voice or announcing, and the prefix pro- adds a sense of completion or emphasis, yielding a definitive, future action. As the 1st person singular future, prohlásím corresponds to “I will declare.”

Usage: Prohlásím is used in formal or rhetorical contexts where a speaker states an intention to declare something in the future. The imperfective counterpart is prohlašuji (present tense) or prohlašoval/a jsem (past). Typical constructions include Prohlásím, že … (“I will declare that …”) or Prohlásím toto za pravdu (“I will declare this to be true”). It can be negated as neprohlásím, though in practice one would often rephrase to avoid ambiguity.
