Profilia refers to a paraphilia characterized by sexual arousal derived from the act of profiling or creating detailed character descriptions of individuals. This condition is not officially recognized in major diagnostic manuals like the DSM-5 or ICD-11. Individuals experiencing profiliphilia may find satisfaction in meticulously analyzing and documenting aspects of a person's personality, background, physical attributes, and behaviors, often with a sexual or erotic focus.

The psychological underpinnings of profiliphilia are not well-understood due to its rarity and lack of formal study. It is theorized that the intense focus on detail and the construction of a comprehensive persona might fulfill specific psychological needs for control, intellectual stimulation, or a unique form of intimacy. The arousal is typically linked to the process of creation and analysis itself, rather than direct interaction with the profiled individual.

It is important to distinguish profiliphilia from general interest in character analysis, such as in literary criticism or forensic psychology, where the motivation is not sexual arousal. When profiliphilia causes distress or impairment in a person's life, or involves non-consensual activities, it may be considered a paraphilic disorder. However, in the absence of such negative consequences and when all parties involved are consenting adults, it is viewed as a variation of sexual interest.
