Proctonemes
Proctonemes are a group of marine invertebrates belonging to the phylum Nemertea, commonly known as ribbon worms. These elongated, unsegmented worms are characterized by the presence of a proboscis, a retractable, muscular tube used for capturing prey. The proboscis is everted from a cavity called the rhynchocoel, located dorsal to the gut. Proctonemes are typically found in marine environments, inhabiting diverse substrates such as sand, mud, and rocky areas. They range in size from a few millimeters to several meters in length, with coloration varying widely among species.
The feeding strategy of proctonemes involves the rapid extension of their proboscis to ensnare small invertebrates
