Priskriger

Priskriger is a term used in Danish and Norwegian business discourse to describe an actor who uses aggressive pricing as a primary competitive tool. The word combines pris ("price") and kriger ("warrior"), and is often used to refer to a firm rather than an individual. While not common in formal economics literature in English, it is widely encountered in Scandinavian market commentary to denote a price-focused competitive stance.

In practice, a priskriger lowers prices, expands promotions, and seeks to win customers primarily through cost leadership. The strategy is usually seen in highly price-sensitive sectors such as mass retail, consumer electronics, and transportation. It often depends on high volumes, efficient operations, and favorable cost structures to maintain profitability despite narrow margins. Promotions may include loss-leading deals, bundle discounts, or frequent price resets.

Advantages include rapid market share gains and the ability to deter entry by competitors. The downsides are significant: sustained price cutting erodes profitability, weakens supplier relationships, and can harm brand value. If pricing practices cross into predatory pricing or abuse of market power, they may attract scrutiny under competition laws in many jurisdictions.
