Prijze

Prijze is a town and commune located in the fictional nation of Veridia, in the Veridian Lowlands. It lies along the Prieza River, about 60 kilometers inland from the coast and near the border with the neighboring region of Elaron.

The name Prijze likely derives from an old vernacular form connected to markets; local tradition ties it to a once-bustling medieval marketplace.

Historically, Prijze developed around a fortress and market in the 12th century. It grew substantially after the arrival of the railway in the late 19th century and underwent municipal reforms in the mid-20th century, expanding from a market town to a small regional center.

Geography and demographics: area 42 sq km; population around 18,200; density 433 people per sq km. The population is predominantly Veridian, with small immigrant communities.

Economy: diverse; services are the largest sector, followed by light manufacturing and agriculture, especially horticulture and fruit farming in surrounding valleys. The town also attracts visitors to the historic center and riverside parks.

Education and culture: home to the Veridia University of Applied Sciences, Prijze campus, established 1969; cultural institutions include the Prijze Museum of Folklore and a yearly Market Festival that draws regional artisans.
