Previtellogenic

Previtellogenic is a term used in reproductive biology to describe the phase of oocyte development that occurs before vitellogenesis. During this stage, the oocyte grows and undergoes nuclear and cytoplasmic maturation, but yolk deposition has not yet begun.

Key features of the previtellogenic stage include active transcription and translation within the oocyte, accumulation of maternal mRNAs and proteins, and reorganization of cytoplasmic organelles. The cytoplasm remains relatively low in yolk content, and uptake of yolk precursors into the oocyte has not started or is minimal.
