Predikatiivien

Predikatiivien, often translated as "predicatives" or "predicative complements," are linguistic elements that follow a linking verb (copula) and describe or identify the subject of the sentence. In Finnish grammar, where the term "predikatiivien" is commonly used, these elements play a crucial role in sentence structure and meaning. They are distinct from objects, which receive the action of a transitive verb.

There are two main types of predicatives in Finnish: nominative predicatives and genitive predicatives. Nominative predicatives agree in case with the subject, typically appearing in the nominative.
