Prabowo

Prabowo Subianto is an Indonesian politician and businessman who is the current President-elect of Indonesia. He previously served as the Minister of Defense of Indonesia from 2019 to 2024. Prabowo is also the founder and leader of the Great Indonesia Movement Party (Gerindra).

Born in Jakarta, Indonesia, Prabowo is the son of the prominent Indonesian economist Soemitro Djojohadikusumo. He had a career in the Indonesian Army, rising to the rank of Lieutenant General before his retirement. His military service included involvement in operations in East Timor. After his military career, he entered the business sector.

Prabowo first ran for president in 2014 and again in 2019, both times losing to Joko Widodo. He was a candidate in the 2024 presidential election, winning a majority of the votes. His political platform has often emphasized national security, economic development, and national pride. He is a controversial figure due to allegations of human rights abuses during his military career, which he has denied. His political journey has been marked by both strong support and significant opposition.
