Postpolicy

Postpolicy is a term used in policy studies and information technology to describe rules, procedures, and assessment steps that apply after an initial policy has been decided or after a policy-relevant event has occurred.

In policy studies, postpolicy refers to the post-implementation phase of the policy lifecycle, including monitoring, enforcement, performance evaluation, and revision to improve effectiveness. It focuses on whether the policy achieves its objectives, how it is implemented, and what changes are required.

In information technology and cloud services, postpolicy is most visible in the context of browser-based uploads to cloud storage such as AWS S3. A POST policy (often written as post policy or postpolicy) is a policy document that specifies constraints for uploaded objects, including allowed bucket, key prefixes, content type, size limits, and expiration. The policy is base64-encoded, signed with credentials, and submitted with HTML form uploads to permit direct client uploads without server-side mediation.

Other uses may refer to postpolicy controls in security or governance, which operate after event detection or policy deployment to ensure compliance and facilitate audits, reporting, and policy revision.
