It encompasses both preventing dust generation and containing dust at the source, as well as protecting workers and the environment from dust emissions.

Main strategies in porvédelmet include engineering controls, administrative measures, and personal protective equipment. Engineering controls aim to reduce dust generation or capture it at the source through methods such as enclosing machinery, implementing local exhaust ventilation, using dust suppression systems (for example water sprays or fogging), and optimizing process design. Administrative controls cover safe work procedures, regular housekeeping, training, and scheduling that minimize dust exposure.
