Porttinumeroilla, often shortened to simply "porttinumero", is a Finnish term that directly translates to "port numbers" in English. It refers to the numerical identifiers used in computer networking to distinguish between different applications or services running on the same host. These numbers are a fundamental component of the Transport Layer protocols, most commonly TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) and UDP (User Datagram Protocol), which are part of the Internet protocol suite.

When data travels across a network, it is addressed not only to a specific host (identified by an IP address) but also to a particular application on that host.
