Polymerkombinationen, also known as polymer blends or polymer alloys, refers to mixtures of two or more distinct polymers. These combinations are created to achieve material properties that are superior to or different from those of the individual constituent polymers. By carefully selecting the polymers and their proportions, manufacturers can engineer materials with enhanced mechanical strength, improved thermal stability, better chemical resistance, or specific optical or electrical characteristics.

The miscibility of the polymers is a crucial factor in determining the properties of the resulting blend. Miscible polymer blends form a single, homogeneous phase, leading to properties that are often intermediate to those of the components. In contrast, immiscible blends form distinct phases, and their properties are influenced by the morphology of these phases, such as the size and distribution of dispersed particles. Interfacial adhesion between the phases plays a significant role in the overall performance of immiscible blends.

Various techniques are employed in the production of polymer combinations, including melt blending, solution blending, and in-situ polymerization. Melt blending, where polymers are mixed in their molten state using extruders or internal mixers, is the most common industrial method. The properties of polymer combinations can be further modified by the addition of fillers, reinforcing agents, or other additives.
