Polyaminekatalysatoren

Polyaminekatalysatoren are catalysts that use polyamine motifs as their active sites or ligands. The term covers both organocatalysts that rely on multiple amine groups to activate substrates and metal-based catalysts in which polyamine ligands coordinate to a metal center to modulate reactivity. The concept draws on the ability of amine functionalities to bind substrates, form reactive intermediates, and participate in acid–base catalysis.

For organocatalysis, polyamines can act as bifunctional catalysts, pairing a basic amine site with additional functional groups that enable hydrogen bonding or steric control, facilitating reactions such as condensations, additions, or cyclizations. For metal-catalyzed processes, polyamine ligands such as tren, cyclam, or related oligomethylated derivatives are used to tune metal coordination geometry, electronic properties, and stereochemical outcome. Polyamine ligands can be monodentate, bidentate, or multidentate, and can be attached to polymers to create heterogeneous catalysts.

Design and synthesis: Polyamine frameworks are accessible through alkylation, condensation with aldehydes to form imines, or polycondensation with linkers to create dendritic or polymeric catalysts. Polymer-supported polyamines enable easy recovery and reuse, and can be employed in flow or batch processes. Stability and flexibility of the polyamine skeleton influence catalytic performance, as does steric environment near active sites.

Applications and performance: Polyaminekatalysatoren appear across a range of transformations, including C–C and C–N bond-forming reactions, and in enantioselective processes when chiral elements are incorporated. Their advantages include tunability, metal-ligand cooperativity, and potential for multivalent catalysis, while challenges include synthesis complexity, sensitivity to air and moisture, and the need for careful control of protonation states.
