Politiikoiden

Politiikoiden is a Finnish inflected form, commonly analysed as the genitive plural of the noun politiikko ("politician"). It is used to express possession, association or other relations attributed to a group of politicians, as in politiikoiden kanta ("the politicians' position"). The form appears in written and spoken Finnish alongside an alternative genitive plural, politiikkojen, and the two variants coexist in contemporary usage.

The choice between -iden and -jen endings reflects historical and dialectal variation in Finnish nominal inflection. Both endings derive from different plural-stem paradigms and may be preferred according to register, regional speech or euphony; -iden is often regarded as more formal or conservative in some descriptions, while -jen is common in everyday language. Grammatically, politiikoiden functions like other genitive plural forms: it marks the possessor in possessed noun phrases and appears in syntactic constructions that require genitive agreement.

Politiikoiden should not be confused with other cases: the nominative plural is politiikot and the partitive plural is politiikkoja. As an inflected form rather than an independent lexical item, its occurrence in corpora and texts is tied to contexts discussing groups of politicians, political positions or collective actions.
