Poliploidization
Poliploidization is a genomic mutation process where an organism acquires one or more extra sets of chromosomes. This phenomenon is common in plants and fungi, but also occurs in some animals. The resulting organism is called a polyploid, meaning it has more than two complete sets of chromosomes. There are two main types of polyploidization: autopolyploidization, where the extra chromosome sets come from the same species, and allopolyploidization, where they originate from different species through hybridization followed by chromosome doubling.
Poliploidization can have significant consequences for an organism. It can lead to increased cell size, altered
The mechanism of polyploidization often involves errors in cell division, specifically during meiosis or mitosis, where
