Mechanisms include teleconnections (e.g., Arctic Oscillation, Antarctic Circumpolar Wave), feedbacks like ice-albedo and ocean heat transport, and atmospheric blocking patterns that connect polar and temperate regions. Strong polarbindig implies that perturbations in polar regions have outsized impacts on global climate variability, whereas weak polarbindig suggests greater regional decoupling.
