Polagrad

Polagrad is a fictional city and regional capital in the southeastern Veridia, situated along the Pola River. It functions as the administrative, economic, and cultural center of the Veridia region and serves as a hub for trade and higher education.

The city sits on a river plain with nearby hills; the climate is temperate maritime with mild winters and warm summers; annual precipitation is about 700 millimeters.

Founded in the 9th century by traders, Polagrad grew as a market town and became capital after a late-19th-century railway expansion. Industrial growth followed in the mid-20th century, shaping its current economy and urban form.

As of 2023, the population is about 320,000. Local government comprises a city council and a mayor within the Veridia metropolitan governance framework. The population is diverse, reflecting rural-urban migration and regional mixing.

The economy centers on logistics, manufacturing, and services. The Polagrad Port, rail hub, and the Veridia Tech Park support trade and industry; Polagrad University contributes research and skilled labor.

Historic Old Town, St. Marek Cathedral, riverfront promenade, and the Central Market are key sites. Institutions include the Polagrad University Museum; annual Riverfest attracts visitors and academic conferences.

Polagrad is a regional transportation hub with Polagrad Central Station, an international airport, and highway connections. Public transit includes buses and a light rail line linking districts and suburban towns.
