Polüisopreenist

Polüisopreenist is the Estonian term for polyisoprene, a synthetic polymer that is structurally identical to natural rubber. It is a versatile material with a wide range of applications due to its elasticity, resilience, and toughness. Polyisoprene is produced through the polymerization of isoprene monomers, which are derived from petroleum or natural gas. The process can be controlled to create polymers with varying molecular weights and microstructures, influencing the material's properties.

There are two main types of synthetic polyisoprene: cis-1,4-polyisoprene and trans-1,4-polyisoprene. Cis-1,4-polyisoprene is the form that most closely resembles natural rubber and is prized for its excellent elasticity, high tensile strength, and good abrasion resistance. Trans-1,4-polyisoprene, while also elastic, has different properties and is less commonly used in applications requiring high performance.

The uses of polyisoprene are extensive. It is a key component in the manufacturing of tires, medical gloves, condoms, adhesives, and footwear. Its ability to stretch and return to its original shape makes it ideal for dynamic applications. Furthermore, polyisoprene can be compounded with various additives to enhance specific properties such as resistance to heat, chemicals, or UV radiation.
