Polüestertereftalaat

Polüestertereftalaat is the Estonian term for polyethylene terephthalate, commonly known as PET. It is a thermoplastic polymer resin of the polyester family. PET is widely used in fibers for clothing, in food and beverage containers, and for films. It is a clear, strong, and lightweight plastic that is also highly resistant to impact and gases.

The production of PET involves the reaction of ethylene glycol with terephthalic acid. This process creates long polymer chains that can be processed into various forms. PET is valued for its excellent barrier properties against oxygen and carbon dioxide, making it ideal for packaging beverages like soda and water. Its transparency also makes it a popular choice for food containers and cosmetic packaging.

PET is also recyclable, and recycled PET (rPET) is increasingly used in the production of new products, reducing the need for virgin materials and contributing to a circular economy.
