Pokyis

Pokyis is a fictional mammal species described in the shared universe of Ilyrian fauna. Native to the temperate rainforests of the forest moon Ilyris, Pokyis is a small, arboreal omnivore known for its soft gray-brown fur, rounded face, and a long prehensile tail used for balance and gripping branches. Adults range from 15 to 22 centimeters in body length, with tails measuring 20 to 28 centimeters. The species feeds on fruit, seeds, buds, and insects, and may sip nectar during flowering season.

Pokyis is primarily nocturnal and tends to be solitary, though pairs or family groups may form during breeding. It moves with careful leaps and climbs among the mid-canopy, using scent markings and soft vocalizations to communicate. Reproduction yields litters of two to three altricial young after an approximate six-week gestation. Young stay with the mother for several months before dispersing.

Ecologically, Pokyis contributes to seed dispersal and insect regulation, and it serves as prey for larger forest predators in its habitat. In Ilyrian folklore, Pokyis figures as a symbol of patience and night navigation, appearing in tales that emphasize quiet observation and resilience.

The name Pokyis is believed to derive from a local Ilyran dialect, and the species was first formalized in the fictional zoological compendium of 2143 by researcher Mira Kadir. In the universe it inhabits, Pokyis populations are described as stable, with threats arising mainly from habitat disturbance and climate-related changes to the forest canopy.
