Pokédexes

A Pokédex is a fictional electronic device in the Pokémon franchise that serves as a comprehensive encyclopedia of Pokémon species. It is typically given to aspiring Pokémon Trainers by a Pokémon Professor at the beginning of their journey. The primary function of a Pokédex is to record information about any Pokémon the user encounters and catches.

When a Pokémon is encountered, the Pokédex will display basic data such as its species name, its species classification (e.g., "Mouse Pokémon"), its height, and its weight. If a Trainer catches a Pokémon, the Pokédex will then update to include more detailed information, such as its type, abilities, and a description of its behavior and habitat. As a Trainer progresses through their journey and encounters or captures more Pokémon, the Pokédex fills up, acting as a measure of their progress.

Different versions of the Pokédex exist throughout the Pokémon games, often with unique designs and functionalities. Some later models, like the Rotom Pokédex, are sentient and can interact with the Trainer, offering advice and even transforming into different appliances. The Pokédex is a central tool for exploration and learning within the Pokémon world, encouraging players to discover and document every species.
