As a result, podrobne is now primarily seen in historic texts, literary writing with a formal or archaic tone, translations aiming to evoke earlier styles, or in philological discussions about older usage.

Etymology and cognates remain largely transparent across Slavic languages. The form is linked to an adjective such as podrobny or to a root related to drob- meaning small or fine.
