Plectopods

Plectopods are a diverse group of crustaceans belonging to the order Amphipoda. Amphipods are characterized by their laterally compressed bodies, with two pairs of antennae and three pairs of mouthparts. Plectopods, specifically, are a suborder within Amphipoda, though the precise taxonomic classification and relationships within the order are subject to ongoing research and debate among carcinologists.

These small crustaceans are found in a wide range of aquatic environments, including marine, freshwater, and even brackish habitats. They are distributed globally, from the intertidal zones of oceans to the depths of freshwater lakes.
