The platform level influences how passengers board and alight vehicles. A key objective is to minimize the gap and step difference between the platform surface and the vehicle floor to enable safe, easy, and accessible boarding for people of all ages and abilities. Platform levels are chosen in coordination with vehicle floor heights, track geometry, and station constraints, and they vary by country, transit authority, and service type. In practice, platforms are designed with uniform levels within a station and consistent transitions between adjacent platform faces to maintain smooth passenger flow.

Design considerations for plattformsnivå include accessibility requirements (such as level boarding or minimal height differences), safety features (edge markings, tactile paving for the visually impaired), drainage and surface durability, and structural integration with stairs, ramps, and elevators.
