Plasttänder

Plasttänder are artificial teeth made of plastic used in dental prosthetics to replace missing teeth, most commonly in removable dentures. They are designed to fit the denture base and to match the patient’s bite and appearance.

Materials and fabrication: The primary material is polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) resin; other plastics or composites are also used. Teeth may be prefabricated in standard shapes and shades or milled to fit the denture. They are mounted into the denture base resin and adjusted for occlusion and aesthetics.

History and usage: Acrylic resin teeth became common in the mid-20th century, offering a lighter, more adjustable alternative to porcelain. They are used in full dentures and in some removable partial dentures.

Advantages and limitations: Advantages include lower cost, lighter weight, ease of adjustment and repair, and better shock absorption. Limitations include lower wear resistance, greater potential for staining or roughness, and more rapid wear on opposing natural teeth, requiring periodic replacement or adjustment.

Care: Clean dentures daily with a soft denture brush and mild cleaner; soak overnight in a denture solution; avoid hot water and abrasive cleaners; handle carefully to prevent breakage; visit a dentist for fit checks.
