Planckdata

Planckdata is an open data platform and repository designed to provide access to Planck mission data and related cosmology datasets. It collects, curates, and serves both raw and processed products to researchers, educators, and developers, with emphasis on interoperability and provenance.

The repository includes temperature and polarization maps from Planck, component-separated products, beams, noise estimates, calibration data, likelihood files, and derived cosmological parameters. It also hosts software tools, documentation, data release notes, and tutorials to support data usage, validation, and reproducibility.

Access is provided through a web portal and an application programming interface that supports programmatic querying, bulk downloads, and metadata filtering. Data formats emphasize community standards, such as FITS and HEALPix-based products, with accompanying metadata and versioning to enable reproducible analyses. Planckdata assigns persistent identifiers (DOIs) to major data releases and tracks provenance and processing history.

Licensing is open and research-friendly, typically allowing reuse with proper citation and acknowledgement of Planckdata and the original Planck collaboration. The platform encourages community contributions, including data quality flags, validation reports, and supplementary datasets, through a governance model that includes an independent steering committee and collaboration with ESA and academic partners.

Planckdata is used by cosmologists, astrophysicists, and educators to study the cosmic microwave background, constrain cosmological parameters, and teach data analysis techniques. By centralizing Planck-related resources, it aims to streamline discovery, foster reproducibility, and support interdisciplinary research.
