PkT

PKT refers to the native cryptocurrency of PKT Network, a project that aims to build a decentralized version of the Internet by enabling participants to share and monetize bandwidth and routing resources. The PKT token is intended to serve as the unit of account and settlement within the network, used to pay for bandwidth, routing services, and related network activities, as well as to align incentives for participants who contribute resources.

The PKT Network envisions a global mesh of routers that run open-source software and connect directly with peers. Routers that contribute spare bandwidth or participate in routing can earn PKT tokens, while consumers and service providers pay in PKT for network capacity. Transactions are recorded on a blockchain-like ledger to enable micropayments and transparent accounting, and a routing protocol is designed to operate across the distributed set of nodes.

Economic and governance rules for PKT are described in the project’s documentation. Token issuance, supply management, and governance mechanisms are proposed to be governed by PKT holders, enabling proposals and voting on protocol changes and parameter adjustments.

Adoption to date has included community networks and experimental deployments that test decentralized routing and micropayments for bandwidth. PKT faces challenges common to early-stage crypto-based network projects, including technical scalability, integration with conventional Internet infrastructure, regulatory considerations, and price volatility. Advocates argue the model could increase resilience and reduce dependence on centralized carriers, while skeptics note the difficulty of achieving broad adoption.
