Pipelointi

Pipelointi is a Finnish term referring to the act of lining a pipe, particularly in the context of renovation or repair. This process is often used to extend the lifespan of existing underground or inaccessible pipelines without the need for extensive excavation. Pipelining involves inserting a new, seamless pipe or a liner material inside the old, damaged pipe.

There are several methods employed in pipelining. One common technique is cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining, where a resin-impregnated felt tube is inserted into the old pipe and then cured, typically using hot water, steam, or UV light, to form a new, solid pipe within the old one. Another method involves pulling a new, flexible pipe, often made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), through the existing pipe. This is known as pipe bursting or pipe pulling.

The benefits of pipelining include reduced disruption to the surrounding environment, lower costs compared to full replacement, and minimal impact on traffic and infrastructure. It is widely used for rehabilitating sewer lines, water mains, and industrial pipelines. The process effectively seals cracks, joints, and leaks, preventing groundwater infiltration and sewage exfiltration, thereby improving the overall performance and integrity of the pipeline system.
