Pikselöidyt

Pikselöidyt is a Finnish term that translates to "pixelated" in English. It refers to an image or visual display that has been broken down into small, discrete squares called pixels. When an image is rendered in a pixelated fashion, the individual pixels become visibly apparent, often resulting in a blocky or jagged appearance. This can occur for several reasons, including low image resolution, aggressive digital scaling, or deliberate artistic choice.

The degree of pixelation is dependent on the size and number of pixels used to represent the image. A higher resolution image uses more, smaller pixels, leading to a smoother and more detailed appearance. Conversely, a low-resolution image uses fewer, larger pixels, which makes the pixel grid more obvious. Digital zoom or stretching a small image to a larger display area can also cause pixelation as the software attempts to fill the larger space by repeating or interpolating the existing pixels.

In some contexts, pixelation is an undesirable artifact, diminishing the quality and clarity of a visual. However, it is also employed as a stylistic element in digital art, video games, and retro-themed designs to evoke a specific aesthetic. The term is commonly used in discussions about digital imaging, display technology, and graphic design.
