Pflegeberufereform
The Pflegeberufereform, or Nursing Professions Reform, is a significant legislative change in Germany aimed at modernizing and unifying the training of nurses. Implemented in 2020, its primary goal was to consolidate the three previously separate training pathways for general nursing, pediatric nursing, and geriatric nursing into a single, integrated general nursing qualification. This reform sought to create a more flexible and attractive training system for nursing professions, addressing a growing shortage of qualified caregivers.
Under the new system, all trainees complete a common foundational training period of at least two years.
