Petronas

Petronas, short for Petroliam Nasional Berhad, is Malaysia's fully integrated oil and gas company and the national petroleum corporation. It is wholly owned by the Government of Malaysia through a controlling stake held by the Minister of Finance Incorporated. Established in 1974 to oversee the country’s oil and gas resources, Petronas developed from earlier state ventures into a diversified energy conglomerate.

Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, Petronas operates across the oil and gas value chain, including exploration and production, refining and marketing, petrochemicals, and natural gas and LNG. The group also engages in trading, transportation, and power generation, with an international portfolio of assets and operations across Asia, Australia, Africa, Europe, and the Americas. Major subsidiaries include PETRONAS Carigali (upstream), PETRONAS Dagangan (retail and marketing), PETRONAS Chemicals Group, and PETRONAS Gas Berhad, among others.

Petronas owns and operates significant LNG facilities in Malaysia and has invested in LNG and energy projects abroad. It remains a central pillar of Malaysia’s economy, contributing to government revenue, employment, and domestic energy infrastructure. In recent years, the company has pursued diversification into gas-based and low-carbon energy solutions while maintaining its core oil and gas activities. Governance and strategy are directed by corporate management under the oversight of the Malaysian government and relevant regulators.
