Perviewport refers to a design and development approach in which the user interface and related resources are configured and delivered on a per-viewport basis. The term is used in contemporary design discourse to describe techniques that optimize the UI and assets for the specific characteristics of the viewer’s device, such as width, height, pixel density, and orientation, rather than relying solely on global breakpoints. In practice, perviewport can involve dynamic component trees, per-viewport asset bundles, and conditional rendering that adapts to the current viewport during runtime, as well as server-side strategies that select resources based on detected viewport properties.

Key mechanisms include using viewport-aware breakpoints, media queries, and feature queries to choose layouts; employing resource loading strategies such as per-viewport image sets or conditional script loading; and leveraging modern CSS features like container queries and viewport units to influence styling. The approach sits alongside responsive design, which emphasizes fluid layouts, and adaptive design, which targets a fixed set of viewports but with distinct layouts.

Applications include complex dashboards, media-rich sites, and apps that must maintain usability across a broad range of devices, from small phones to large desktops. Potential challenges include increased design and maintenance complexity, testing across many viewports, caching concerns, and ensuring accessibility and performance across devices.
