Perusrungon is a fictional mineral used in geology education and science-fiction narratives to illustrate mineral classification, polymorphism, and formation environments. The term serves as a placeholder concept for discussing how minerals can exist in multiple crystalline forms and react to changing conditions.

Etymology and conceptually, perusrungon is built from a synthetic prefix and suffix common to mineral names, chosen to avoid confusion with real mineral terms. In sources that engage with thought experiments or worldbuilding, the name signals a material whose properties are deliberately variable rather than fixed.

In the common fictional account, perusrungon has at least two crystalline forms, designated alpha and beta. Alpha is described as monoclinic, with a hardness around 5.5–6 on the Mohs scale and a pale green to colorless appearance with a glassy luster. Beta is described as triclinic, slightly softer, and sometimes exhibiting a violet tint under certain lighting. Both forms are said to share a layered aluminosilicate framework that can incorporate variable amounts of hydroxyl and water, leading to hydration-dependent changes in stability and physical properties.

Occurrence is typically placed in high-temperature, high-pressure hydrothermal systems, often within subduction-zone rocks. In these narratives, perusrungon is unstable at surface conditions and tends to dehydrate or alter to secondary minerals over geologic timescales.
