Permanentstøping

Permanentstøping is a manufacturing process used to create metal parts. It involves pouring molten metal into a reusable mold, known as a permanent mold. Unlike sand casting, where the mold is destroyed after each use, permanent molds are typically made from metal, such as iron or steel. This reusability allows for higher production volumes and more consistent part quality.

The process begins with the creation of a mold cavity, which is designed to the exact shape of the desired part. The mold is usually opened, the molten metal is introduced, and then the mold is closed and allowed to cool. Once the metal has solidified, the mold is opened, and the finished part is removed. Permanent molds can be simple or complex, often featuring intricate internal details and external features.

Permanentstøping offers several advantages. The use of metal molds leads to better surface finish and tighter dimensional tolerances compared to sand casting. It is also generally faster for high-volume production runs due to the mold's reusability. Common metals cast using this method include aluminum alloys, magnesium alloys, copper alloys, and some cast irons. The process is well-suited for producing parts such as engine blocks, cylinder heads, pump housings, and various automotive components. While the initial cost of creating a permanent mold can be higher than a sand mold, the long-term cost-effectiveness for mass production is significant.
