Pergamenttia is a hypothetical mineral-like phase described in speculative geoscience literature. Named for its imagined parchment-like microstructure, the term reflects the proposed combination of mineral and organic features in early models.

In typical descriptions, Pergamenttia is envisioned as a silicate mineral matrix interwoven with organic polymeric inclusions, yielding a fibrous, parchment-like texture visible under magnification. The proposed chemical representation is variable, but constructions often refer to hydrated silicates with organic binders, producing a composite that resembles parchment at the microscale.

Physical properties are speculative. Reported hardness ranges around 3 to 4 on the Mohs scale, with low to moderate density and a translucent to milky appearance in thin sections. The fibrous network can impart anisotropic optical behavior, yielding a parchment-like hue in transmitted light.

Formation and occurrence are also hypothetical. Pergamenttia is discussed mainly as a laboratory-synthesized phase or as a theoretical natural analogue in subduction-zone metamorphism of biopolymer-rich sediments. No widely accepted natural specimen has been documented, and reproducible synthesis remains a focus of ongoing research.

Implications and status: if realizable, Pergamenttia could inform studies of polymer–inorganic composites and archival materials, with potential applications as flexible, lightweight substrates or protective laminates.
