Perenvelope

Perenvelope is a term used mainly in informal technical discourse to describe a design pattern in which each unit of data is wrapped in an independent conceptual "envelope" that carries both the payload and specific metadata or security properties. The idea emphasizes boundary-focused processing, where actions such as encryption, integrity checks, routing, and policy application occur at the envelope level rather than inside the payload itself.

Etymology and status: The word is a compound of per (for each) and envelope. It is not a standardized term in major standards bodies and its exact meaning varies by context; writers often use it as a shorthand to discuss envelope-like architectures or to refer to envelope encryption concepts more loosely.

Applications: In cryptography, the closest related concept is envelope encryption, where a data encryption key encrypts the payload and a separate envelope key protects that key; this can be described as per-environment or per-envelope protection. In data systems and messaging, per-envelope design supports granular metadata, access controls, auditing, and policy enforcement at the boundary of each message or object.
