Pelletálás

Pelletálás is a process used to convert loose, powdered, or granular materials into small, dense, solid pellets. This transformation offers several advantages, including improved handling, storage, and transportation. By agglomerating fine particles into larger, more uniform shapes, pelletization reduces dust formation, minimizes segregation of different components within a mixture, and increases bulk density, leading to more efficient use of space.

The pelletization process typically involves mixing the raw material with a binder and then forcing the mixture through a die under pressure. The die contains numerous holes, and as the material is extruded, it forms long strands that are then cut into uniform lengths, creating the pellets. The type of binder used and the specific parameters of the process, such as pressure, temperature, and die design, are critical and depend heavily on the material being pelletized and the desired pellet characteristics.

Pelletization finds widespread application across various industries. In animal feed production, it ensures a balanced nutrient intake for livestock and poultry. In agriculture, fertilizers are often pelletized for easier application and controlled release. The metallurgical industry uses pelletization for iron ore fines, creating durable pellets that can withstand the high temperatures of blast furnaces. Biomass, such as sawdust and agricultural waste, is also pelletized for use as a renewable fuel source. The resulting pellets are often easier to ignite, burn more efficiently, and produce less smoke compared to their unpelletized forms.
