Passivierungsprozess is a term used in linguistics to describe the transformation of an active sentence into a passive construction, particularly in the German language. It involves changes to the verbal morphology, word order, and the use of auxiliary verbs to shift the focus from the doer of the action (the agent) to the action itself or to the recipient (the patient). In German, the passive is typically formed with the auxiliary verb *werden* and the past participle of the main verb. For example, the active sentence „Der Mann repariert das Auto“ becomes the passive „Das Auto wird repariert“ in the passivierungsprozess.

The process is governed by specific syntactic rules. The object of the active clause becomes the subject of the passive clause, while the subject of the active clause is either omitted or introduced with a prepositional phrase starting with *von*. The word order is also adjusted according to the Verb‑Second rule: the auxiliary verb moves to the second position, and the main verb moves to the final position.
