Particionálási is a term used in computer science to describe the process of dividing a storage device, such as a hard drive or solid-state drive, into one or more logical sections called partitions. Each partition can be formatted with a different file system and treated as an independent storage unit by the operating system. This allows for better organization of data, installation of multiple operating systems on the same drive, and improved data management.

The primary purpose of partitioning is to create distinct areas for different types of data or operating systems. For example, a user might create a separate partition for their operating system and another for their personal files. This separation can prevent data loss if the operating system becomes corrupted, as the personal files remain intact on their own partition. Furthermore, partitioning is essential for installing multiple operating systems, a process known as dual-booting or multi-booting. Each operating system requires its own partition to store its files and bootloader.

Partitioning also plays a role in system performance and security. By dedicating specific partitions for different purposes, users can optimize the allocation of disk space and potentially improve read/write speeds. In some enterprise environments, partitions might be used to isolate sensitive data or applications, enhancing security by limiting access to specific areas of the storage device. Various tools and utilities are available for managing partitions, ranging from built-in operating system tools like Disk Management in Windows or Disk Utility in macOS, to third-party software that offers more advanced features.
