Pareikalauti refers to a traditional Finnish method of communication using a series of knocks or taps on a door, window, or other surface to convey messages or signals. This practice was particularly common in rural Finland, where long distances and limited infrastructure made direct verbal communication difficult. The technique relied on a standardized code of knocks, allowing people to exchange information without revealing their location or identity.

The system typically involved a series of three or more distinct knocks, each representing a letter, number, or word. For example, a single knock might stand for "A," two knocks for "B," and so on, following a simple phonetic or numerical sequence. More complex messages could be constructed by combining these knocks, often with pauses to separate words.
