Parametritestit, often translated as parameterized tests, are a software testing technique that allows testers to run the same test case multiple times with different sets of input data. Instead of writing repetitive code for each variation of a test, a single parameterized test can be defined with parameters that are supplied from an external data source or directly within the test code. This approach significantly reduces code duplication and makes tests more readable and maintainable.

The core idea behind parameterized tests is to separate the test logic from the test data. The test logic defines the steps to be executed and the expected outcome, while the parameters provide the specific input values and expected results for each test run. This separation allows for easy addition, modification, or removal of test data without altering the test method itself.

Frameworks like JUnit (Java), NUnit (.NET), and pytest (Python) offer built-in support for parameterized tests, often through annotations or specific decorators. When a parameterized test is executed, the testing framework iterates through the provided parameter sets, running the test logic for each set. This makes it efficient to test a wide range of scenarios, including edge cases, boundary conditions, and typical inputs, ensuring more robust software. The output typically indicates which parameter set failed, aiding in quick diagnosis of issues.
