Paragrafelor

Paragrafelor is a Romanian grammatical form that designates multiple paragraphs. It is the genitive/dative plural of paragraf, a unit used to divide text, especially in formal documents such as laws, contracts, and official reports.

In Romanian, the basic noun is paragraf. Its plural nominative is paragrafe, with the definite plural paragrafele. The genitive/dative plural form is paragrafelor, used after prepositions or in constructions requiring a case ending, for example: conform paragrafelor 3–5 din Legea X or respectarea paragrafelor 2 și 4 din articolul 7. The term is therefore most common in legal, administrative, and academic writing.

Paragrafelor is often contrasted with paragraf singular (paragraful) and with paragrafele (definite plural). In everyday non-legal Romanian, people may simply refer to “paragraful” and “paragrafe,” reserving paragrafelor for formal or precise expressions within texts. In many legal systems, a document is structured into articole (articles) that contain paragraf(e) (paragraphs), but usage can vary by jurisdiction; some texts use paragraf for a subdivision within an article, others use paragraf as a stand-alone unit.

The term’s etymology traces to Latin paragraphus, via French paragraphe or Italian paragrafo. In English translations, paragrafelor corresponds to “of the paragraphs” or, more loosely, “paragraphs.”
