Papierkarton

PapierKarton, sometimes written Papierkarton, is a generic term for paperboard—a thick, paper‑based material used primarily for packaging and rigid boxes. It is produced from wood fibers and may include recycled content. Paperboard comes in a range of weights and finishes, from lightweight carton stock to heavy, rigid boards suitable for expanding-rigid packaging. Coatings such as clay, coating polymers, or film can be applied to improve brightness, printability, moisture resistance, or grease resistance.

Production and grades are characterized by fiber composition and surface treatment. Common categories include uncoated, clay-coated, and coated duplex or triplex boards, as well as solid bleached sulfate (SBS) and solid unbleached sulfate (SUS). Folding carton board is a widely used subset designed for consumer packaging, while thicker boards serve as backing or rigid boxes. The choice of finish affects printing quality, barrier properties, and appearance.

Applications encompass a broad range of packaging and presentation uses. PapierKarton is employed for food and beverage packaging, cosmetics and pharmaceutical boxes, electronics enclosures, gift boxes, and book covers. It is also used in art and craft projects and for display purposes where stiffness and a smooth surface are advantageous.

Environmental and sustainability aspects are central to many manufacturing and supply chains. Paperboard is widely recyclable and can include high percentages of recycled fibers. Recycled-content boards help reduce virgin fiber demand, and certifications or chain-of-custody standards may accompany production to verify responsible sourcing and environmental performance.
