The PamunkeyMattaponi are a confederacy of two Algonquian-speaking Native American tribes, the Pamunkey and the Mattaponi, who share a common history and cultural heritage. Both tribes are part of the Powhatan Confederacy, which was established in the early 17th century by Chief Powhatan.
